the idea behind it is that you can like and dislike the comments while viewing the videos on the main site, so the funniest and maybe best 2 comments are on top. a counter should be easy implemented and finally you don't need to read through the whole spam posts to see the funny ones :). i know this function from youtube, but it would also look good at theync, maybe you can give it a try, if there are any interests for:wait:

[1] People with alts will vote their own comment up 5, 10, 20 times. MentalZero just got a +224 rating on a comment a week ago because someone had 100 alts, and the comment was some stupid remark about another poster. The voting system is doomed to an easily-abused popularity contest. We saw this at NT in 2008, we see it in MentalZero in 2011, and I'd hate to think that the advertisers would want to promote on a site where the "best" comment with +30 votes for the week is "FUCKING NIGGERS!"

[2] Not all negative comments are bad comments. I would hate to see my comment (for example, or your comment) voted down just because it's a strong opinion that people don't like. That strong opinion may just be the truth, meanwhile, half a dozen other comments are being voted up.

I absolutely disagree with the whole concept of a voting system. If you want to vote comments, then keep your own tally... nobody wants to see anyone else's votes.

n00b here, so just a couple of quick points/observations then i'll stfu & go sit in the corner again. :P

1. I'm guessing the site admin r probably not too concerned with alts, as the greater the number of registered users the better as far as advertising $ etc goes. I suspect that may be a rather short-sighted view however... Surely simple IP checks on users would clear up that problem to a large degree.
2. I'm not sure what if anything would be gained by having post ratings implemented on the front page gore & prOn videos. What would be much more interesting if it was implemented in the more serious forum sections. Maybe have 'dislike' or 'disagree' options only available in the sections where flaming is allowed.
3. Stronger opinions will obviously garner more votes, positive or negative, but so what if ppl disagree with a post? If ppl are gonna be influenced on what or if they post by a rating number on the screen, then that speaks volumes in & of itself.
4. Unfortunately, on sites I have been on prev these post rating systems seem to mirror and strengthen the High School clique/popularity mentality, which obviously sucks.

So, I guess I am undecided myself whether it is a good implementation idea or not. :D
