NASA holds it's secrets dearly. The chances of this request being filled are very slim I know. But I'd like to see any photos of astronauts- especially the Space Shuttle.
Many people think that the Challenger astronauts were killed instantly. Far from it. Their crew capsule is a secure module that survived the blast and can be seen falling 11 miles to the ocean. The astronauts inside were very alive 2 minutes until impact. There even was a transcript floating around many years ago supposedly documenting the panic as they fell to the ocean. The capsule listening device was operational until impact with the water.
Anyway. I always thought it was very interesting. I've seen various photos of both the Challenger/Columbia wreckage. Bodies covered by tarps, blood splattered wreckage but never any photos of the astronauts.
When Columbia blew up- again supposedly- people who found the astronauts body parts were taking pictures all over. Most photos were confiscated and anyone who took as much as a bolt of wreckage was severely prosecuted. We all know there's some redneck with a piece of the shuttle on their mantle out there.
One really bizarre incident happened while they were searching for Columbia's wreckage. A woman involved with the search and recovery process went in a portable toilet. She had a baby and threw it down the toilet shaft! Then I guess just went about her business searching for pieces of the shuttle. Weird eh?
Like I said in the begining. NASA guards it's disasters very closely and keep the photos hidden away. But if anyone out there has some photos- well that'd be very interesting.
