Her profile on Facebook – plastered with selfies of the smiling couple – suggested they were happily in love , but the nursing assistant said it was all an illusion.

Carleigh, from the US city of Indianapolis, feared she would die in the attack which occurred after she and Ryan – whom she considered her “Prince Charming” early in their relationship – attended a wedding on Saturday.

Doctors had to stitch most of her tongue back into her mouth and she is unable to eat solid foods for at least three weeks.
