On March 27, 2023, a mass shooting occurred at Covenant High School in the Green Hills neighborhood of Nashville, Tennessee. Six people died in addition to the perpetrator. Three students and three teachers were among the victims. The shooter, 28-year-old former student Audrey Hale, was killed by police officers responding to the massacre. In 2025, the FBI released Hale's personal journals to the public. In over a thousand pages, Hale contemplated killing all white people, expressed frustration with his virginity, and lamented his desire to become a man, but also expressed his fear of being 30 and going bald by 40.
