On April 25, 2026, Mali experienced a major coordinated terrorist offensive involving multiple attacks across several cities including Bamako, Kati, Gao, Kidal, and Sevare. Jihadist groups linked to Al-Qaeda (JNIM) and Tuareg separatist rebels launched simultaneous assaults on military and civilian targets. Graphic videos that emerged from the attacks show the bodies of numerous civilians — many with their hands tied — executed in rural areas. The footage, originally circulated by the perpetrators, was later shared by pro-Malian and African Corps accounts as evidence of deliberate massacres against the civilian population.
