In the district of Al-Hawban (Al-Ta’ziyah), Taiz Governorate, Yemen, justice was delivered through the ancient Islamic law of Qisas (retribution – “an eye for an eye”).The victim was the father of Professor Qaid Ahmed Hassan (also referred to as Qaid Ahmad Hassan), a respected educator from the isolated area of Al-Kharayeb in Al-Hawban. The elderly man was brutally murdered in cold blood by two convicted killers. After a full judicial process and at the explicit request of the victim’s family (who refused to grant pardon or accept blood money), the court issued a final Qisas death sentence. On the day of execution, the two condemned men — Naeef Ali Dahan and Faisal Ali Mahyoub — were put to death by firing squad in Al-Hawban, Taiz. The sentence was carried out publicly in accordance with Sharia law and Yemeni legislation, as an application of divine retribution for the deliberate killing of an innocent man.Local sources and videos circulating on social media showed the moment the Qisas verdict was enforced, with authorities confirming that the execution took place under heavy security measures and in the presence of judicial officials and the victim’s relatives. This case has sparked strong reactions in the region: while some see it as firm proof that justice still prevails in government-controlled areas of Taiz despite years of war and chaos, others view the public implementation of Qisas as a raw and unforgiving example of “blood for blood.”The murder of Professor Qaid Ahmed Hassan’s father and the subsequent execution of his killers have now become a high-profile example of how traditional Islamic retribution is still applied in parts of Yemen when the victim’s family demands full justice.</a>
