The name of the victim is a Vietnamese man, Nguyễn Xuân Đạt, from his facebook. What little biographical information we have about Dat comes from a person who knew him previously. He claims that Dat was born in 1989. According to a birthday post left on his page, his exact birth date was the 10th of March, 1989. This corresponds with the date of birth on his Zalo. Same person said he met Dat in November of 2024 at the Phung Khoang market in Hanoi. It was also confirmed that he lived in the district of Hà Đông in Hanoi. Dat developed an extreme interest in being beheaded by 2020. By 2022 he displayed interest in homosexual activity. He had two facebook accounts, the first bio saying he likes to be beheaded and the second saying he likes guro hentai, decapitation, and sex, and encouraging people who share those interests to message him. As far back as 2020 he said he was looking for an executioner He went by datbeheading on various social media, including the gore site WPD. He had an account on the porn site motherless, where he expressed his desire to be beheaded. He was also apparently on hentai sites asking for guro hentai He went by datbehead on forums looking to hook up with gay guys in the area. The killing most likely occurred between the 25th of January and the 24th of February at the latest, since the oldest copy of the severed head was shared on the 24th of February. This is interesting as he made facebook posts after this, suggesting they were made by the killer. The earliest trace of the video appears on the 2nd of July in a small Vietnamese Telegram group named "Preview" that contained 11 users, while other chat screenshots from another Chinese group with 41 members simply named "Private Group" appear to discuss the video, as well as other possible snuff videos, as early as the 24th of June. The 41-member group was created by a Vietnamese individual who also spoke Chinese to facilitate the sale of the videos and photos of the killing. He demanded approximately $100 to join the group containing the videos. Whether this 41-member group was legitimate is unknown. The 11-member "Preview" group is confirmed to have contained at least one of the videos.
