Severe thunderstorms struck Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado, subjecting concertgoers to a harrowing hail storm. Nearly 100 people were injured, with seven requiring hospitalization, according to West Metro Fire Rescue. The injuries included cuts, broken bones, welts, and bruises.
Videos circulating on social media captured the chaos as hail, some reportedly the size of golf balls, descended upon the venue, leaving the seating area covered several inches deep. Panicked concertgoers were seen seeking shelter and attempting to escape the onslaught of hail.
As a result of the storm and likely vehicle damage, some individuals found themselves stranded at the venue, as reported by the Denver Police Department.
The concert, featuring Louis Tomlinson of One Direction, was delayed twice before ultimately being officially postponed around 10:30 p.m., acknowledging the severity of the weather conditions.
Numerous attendees shared their accounts of the incident, describing the hail as causing welts, bruises, and injuries. Some reported using makeshift protection, such as trash cans or taking shelter in bathroom stalls, to shield themselves from the hail. Additionally, damage to vehicles, including broken windshields, was reported.
The severe weather impacted not only Red Rocks Amphitheatre but also Dick's Sporting Goods Park, where a Colorado Rapids soccer game was postponed due to the storms.
Severe thunderstorm warnings were in effect for the Denver metro area and the Eastern Plains, with one confirmed tornado causing destruction in Logan County.
Despite the unfortunate circumstances, Louis Tomlinson expressed his concern and disappointment on Twitter, assuring fans that he would return to perform at a later date.
