A Durga Puja pandal in north Kolkata turned into a death trap on Saturday night. Rain sent a massive crowd rushing for shelter, and a rumour that the pandal might collapse triggered a stampede. Eighteen people were killed—13 women, 3 children, and 2 men. At least 25 others were injured. The lanes were too narrow, the volunteers were local youths with no crowd-management training, and no ambulance was on standby. The organisers and private security guards have been detained. In Kolkata, a festival meant to celebrate the goddess ended with families waiting outside a hospital morgue. ]]> Sun 18 Oct 2026 00:36:08 +0200 https://theync.com/video/14023/india-18-dead-in-kolkata-pandal-stampede-rain-and-rumour-spark-chaos/
