Looks like he knicked him in the brachial artery. You've got about 45 seconds to live unless someone puts immense pressure on the wound or applies a tourniquet, assuming the laceration was not proximal.

@spike125 The brachial artery is in the upper arm. You're absolutely correct you cannot put a tourniquet around the chest. That's why I stated that if it was proximal (closer to the body) it would be fatal no matter what you did but if the lasceration happened mid to distal humerus, you'd have a chance of stopping that bleeding with a tourniquet.

It's not impossible, they do have these things I forgot what they're called but they are tiny pellets of super-expanding foam that react with water and they can close a chest wound and even apply enough pressure to stop bleeding but those are found in a battlefield medic's kit rather than an EMT's kit.
