I’ve long hoped to see a scenario where a would-be suicide, having pressed a gun against himself, threatens to pull the trigger, and the police shout, "Drop the gun! Don't shoot yourself! Don't do it—or else we'll shoot you!"
John should have invited those officers to sit down right next to him—butt on the asphalt, just like him.
What was his smiling relative woman hoping for? That the cops would simply talk him out of it? And why start screaming afterwards? It was a logical, predictable outcome; the cops did John a favor – this is what he wanted.

It's easy to sit and criticize these officers for their actions from the safety of your home behind your keyboard. However, in the real world things don't play out like the movies. In real life he's liable to turn that firearm at these officers and then we'd be seeing another officer slain due to inaction. They have to act to protect themselves and the community as a whole. Also, saying she did "nothing" to save his life is kinda dumb, considering how many chest compressions she did.
