Three young men went to immerse a Ganesh idol in the NCR canal near Bahadurgarh. Ajay, 24, stepped into deep water and started drowning. His friends Shivkant, 21, and Nitish, 21, jumped in to save him. Within moments, all three were gone. Divers recovered two bodies. Shivkant is still missing. The group of 16-17 people who came to celebrate with drums ended up watching their friends sink. In India, a festival meant to celebrate life can turn into a recovery operation in less than a minute.
