Eight students from a Pune coaching academy drowned at Diveagar beach in Raigad, Maharashtra, during a picnic. They misjudged the depth and got swept away by the currents. All eight were 16-year-old boys from Classes XI and XII. Rescue teams pulled them out. CPR was attempted. None survived. In India, a beach picnic with 48 classmates and teachers can end with 8 empty desks and 8 families destroyed.
