I don't understand why the cops can't use high powered bean bag guns or non-lethal options that will knock someone on their ass but not kill them. All this technology we have and they can't invent something that is guaranteed to knock someone on their ass but not kill them?

@celtic945: I’ve always asked myself the same question. The malicious intent (an intrinsic element of dolus) is evident in the very attitude of the police officer, as captured on his own camera, with his hand pointing at vital parts of the body in order to kill the elderly man. He could have aimed at an arm or an ankle, or at the leg without piercing the femoral artery – in short, as you say, aimed at a NON-LETHAL area, so as not to take the man’s life, and after neutralising him, to arrest him and bring him to a fair trial.

@Malparido69 realistically, aiming for an ankle or a wrist while someone is coming at you, limbs moving everywhere, while your adrenaline dumps is not ideal if someone is coming at you with a knife. They are trained to aim center mass because that is more likely to both hit, and prevent overpenetration. If they miss an ankle or an arm, it can go through the wall and hit grandma sipping her tea next door...
It appeared to me that the cop was preparing to put his gun away and likely grab his Taser when the guy charged him and he brought it back out. Regardless, tasers can fail very easily, even with no clothing. Beanbag shotguns dont always drop the person. They dont have a way to reliably stop 100% of people instantly.
Could the cop have backed up and turned it into a barricaded suspect? Maybe, given there weren't other people in the house.
At the end of the day, cops shouldn't be stabbed or slashed while doing their job. Don't charge at the police with a knife and your chances of being shot by them goes down by like 99.999%

@celtic945 Unfortunately, there isn't. I've seen shirtless people hit by tasers point blank and not be affected. I've seen people take several beanbag rounds and still charge with a knife.
I personally think more of them should use pepper ball guns (shoots a ball the pops and fills the room with pepper spray) but at the end of the day, officers can't be expected to take a knife wound... Don't charge cops with a knife, don't get shot...
