Ashwani Devgan, the AAP-affiliated sarpanch of Toot village in Tarn Taran, was sitting in his Innova near the bus stand when two or three men on a motorcycle pulled up and fired multiple rounds at close range. He was hit four times in the chest and died at the hospital. His driver took two bullets in the arm. The attackers had their faces covered and fled immediately. Police released CCTV footage three days later, saying there were “no prior threats, no extortion calls, no personal enmity.” In Tarn Taran, a village head can be executed at a bus stop in broad daylight and the official line is still “investigation underway.”
