There's a wide level pavement both sides and a clearly marked light controlled pedestrian crossing - whilst the car driver isn't 100% innocent I would suspect the outcome was the wish of the victim as there is no reason for going down the middle of the road and then crossing just as traffic emerges if you didn't want to get totalled
