MILWAUKEE, WI— On Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at approximately 4:49 p.m., Milwaukee Police Department officers conducted a traffic stop on Fond du Lac Avenue and W. Locust Street for a registration violation. The suspect initially stopped; however, during the encounter the suspect drove off. A vehicle pursuit ensued for reckless driving. During the pursuit, the passenger exited the vehicle and fled on foot and was later arrested.
The vehicle pursuit ended when the suspect exited his vehicle on the 9800 block of West Lisbon Avenue and fled on foot. During the foot pursuit, the officers observed the suspect with a gun. Officers gave the suspect several commands to drop the gun. The suspect refused to drop the gun, at which time officers discharged their firearms subsequently striking the suspect. The suspect’s firearm was recovered.
The suspect, a 38-year old male, was transported to a local hospital and succumbed.
The officers that discharged their firearms are a 46-year-old male with over 10 years of service and a 40-year-old male with over 8 years of service. They were placed on administrative duty as is routine in officer involved shootings.
The Milwaukee Area Investigative Team will be investigating this incident. The Brookfield Police Department is the lead investigating agency.
The Milwaukee Police Department’s Video Release Policy Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) 575, establishes criteria for when video evidence that captures officer-involved incidents that result in death or great bodily harm will be released to the public. This policy is intended to balance important interests, including the public’s interest in transparency and police accountability, the necessity of preserving the integrity of criminal and administrative investigations, and the privacy interests of individuals depicted in such videos (including victims, witnesses, bystanders, and the individuals against whom force is used). This policy creates a presumption of release. It is our goal to release video in officer involved incidents according to SOP 575 within 15 days of the incident.
