Dogs are generally better swimmers than humans, especially in natural waters with strong currents. They are also much lighter, which is why it is completely idiotic for a human to try to rescue a mutt from such raging waters. Even an experienced competitive swimmer would tire quickly in such a current. That's why I just accept it and conclude that the gene pool is now one idiot lighter.
