In Mexico, a graduation photo shoot resulted in hospitalization. During the celebration, the rickety podium collapsed under the people, and they fell to the ground, suffering fractures and injuries. Twenty-three people sought medical attention, six of whom were hospitalized.

In that shitty country, graduating from university is useless.

1 +1 BigHeartSmallWorld 2 months ago

@MomoPI partially, yes, due to underemployment and low wages. However,, it’s not universally true. The reality is complex, characterized by a mismatch between the high number of graduates and the availability of well-paid professional jobs.
There is a significant glut of graduates. While roughly 2 million bachelor's degrees are conferred annually, there are only about 1.1 million professional, well-paying jobs available. Many graduates end up in positions that do not require a degree, working in lower-paying or informal jobs, which leads to feelings of disappointment and the belief that the degree was wasted.
The job market in Mexico is often driven by networking, with many well-paying jobs (e.g., over 25k pesos a month) requiring "palancas" (connections or personal networks) to secure, which can marginalize qualified individuals who lack these connections.
Public universities are sometimes considered to have better academic levels than private ones, but reputation varies. Specific fields like Medicine and Tech (engineering) tend to offer better job security than others.
A degree is often necessary for pursuing further education abroad (e.g., with scholarships) or for securing work visas to emigrate, making it far from useless for long-term career planning, despite local market challenges.
Professionals with bachelor’s degrees are sometimes rejected from entry-level positions because employers prefer to hire people with only a high school education, viewing university graduates as overqualified.

So in conclusion, a degree in Mexico is not inherently useless, but its return on investment (ROI) is highly dependent on the chosen field, the specific university, the ability to build professional networks, and the willingness to look for opportunities outside of traditional job markets.

@Cherokee "You're." It's a contraction of "You are". For example "Your lack of grammar suggests you're not very smart."
