Post-mortem consumption of human flesh is not a mainstream element of Indian culture, but rather a rare, specific practice limited to the Aghori, a small Tantric Shaivite sect. Aghori rituals focus on post-mortem consumption of bodies, often taken from cremation ghats (cremation grounds) like Manikarnika Ghat in Varanasi.
However, descriptions of cannibals, known as Rakshasas or Yatuiv, are found in ancient Vedic texts such as the Rig Veda.
