I do not want to see people being genocided because their culture and religion are homophobic.
I do, however, want society to stop sugarcoating the harsh reality of just how homophobic and violent these cultures are toward LGBT people, all because they are perceived as “brown and oppressed.” We should be able to condemn their treatment of LGBT people in the harshest of terms, while valuing their dignity as human beings.
The two are not mutually exclusive.
