An off-duty police officer was leaving the restroom at a supermarket in Boedo when he stumbled upon a robbery. He opened fire, shot one of the robbers, and foiled the heist. A year later, the fugitive suspect was captured.
The incident occurred on March 25, 2025, at a business located on Avenida Direktorio in the Boedo neighborhood of Buenos Aires.
Federal Police arrested the 34-year-old suspect in the city of Ciudad Evita in the final hours; he had been on the run for a year. His mobile phone was seized. Brutal attack and panic.
CCTV footage shows the robber entering the store with his face uncovered, pretending to be a customer. After a brief conversation with the cashier, who was behind the counter with another man, he headed straight to the back room.
Then his accomplice, armed and masked, entered. He threatened the employee and the customer, forcing them into the back room, where they also overpowered the deli manager. "Stop, police!" the officer shouted, just leaving the restroom when he noticed the robbery. He yelled, "Stop!" and opened fire. He shot one of the attackers twice: once in the face and once in the right arm. He was taken to Ramos Mejia Hospital, where he underwent surgery and, after recovery, was placed in federal custody.

In short, when someone says "On duty," it means they are working their assigned shift, and when someone says a police officer is "Off duty," it means that they are off-duty (at home, shopping, traveling, etc.).
