According to a local source, the man was accused by residents of involvement in an alleged case of "disappearing genitals," a phenomenon fueled by persistent rumors in several towns in the eastern part of the country. Alerted by the cries of a man claiming to have lost his penis after greeting the suspect, angry young people quickly mobilized.
The man in his forties was set upon and violently attacked by the crowd before being killed and then set on fire. Police intervened after the fact, by which time the perpetrators of the lynching had already fled.
