Baltimore, Maryland — On January 19, 2026, Western District officers responded to an apartment complex in the 1100 block of Park Avenue in reference to multiple calls for service, including a welfare check, a disorderly person, and a report of an armed person. Once on scene, officers observed several residents outside of the complex due to a fire alarm having been pulled. An officer entered the building and encountered an individual, identified as 48-year-old Autumn Elizabeth Denny, who was screaming and wielding a large knife. The officer announced himself as a Baltimore Police officer, at which time Denny ran into an apartment. After observing blood in the hallway, officers attempted to enter the apartment. Additional officers arrived on scene and attempted to de-escalate the situation by speaking with Denny through the door.
Officers gave verbal commands for Denny to exit the apartment and drop the knife. Denny exited the apartment holding the knife in one hand and an electrical stun stick in the other. Denny failed to comply with officers’ commands. Multiple officers deployed their tasers in attempt to subdue Denny; however, the tasers were ineffective. One of the officers then discharged their service weapon, striking Denny. The individual continued to resist as officers were initially unable to secure the knife. Officers continued with verbal commands and de-escalation efforts, utilizing their training while maintaining space and distance. Denny eventually dropped the knife and electrical stun stick, allowing officers to take her into custody. Denny was transported to an area hospital for treatment of two gunshot wounds. Denny is currently facing assault and weapons charges. The involved BPD officer was Officer Kevin Wilson, a three-year veteran.

Even if that thing was unarmed and walking backwards down the hallway I’d still shoot it.
