At around 12:40 p.m. on the 29th, a 17-year-old male high school senior from Fujisawa City, Kanagawa Prefecture, was struck by a 10-car rapid express train bound for Shinjuku from Fujisawa at Higashi-Rinkan Station on the Odakyu Enoshima Line in Minami Ward, Sagamihara City, Kanagawa Prefecture. He was confirmed dead at the scene.
According to the Sagamihara Minami Police Station, security camera footage at the station shows the student jumping from the platform into the path of the train, and foul play is considered unlikely. A 24-year-old male office worker who was on board the train said, “After the train stopped, an announcement was made saying ‘This is a personal injury accident,’ and we were asked to wait inside the train for a while. When I later got off, I saw that the front cab window of the lead car had numerous whitish cracks. ”
Due to the accident, train services between Sagami-Ono and Yamato were suspended on both inbound and outbound lines for approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes, affecting around 4,200 passengers.
