The Tadamon massacre took place in 2013 in the Tadamon district of Damascus during the Syrian Civil War. At the time, the area was under heavy security control, with frequent detentions of civilians suspected of opposing the government.
According to later investigations, Syrian security personnel rounded up groups of detainees, blindfolded them, and took them to a site where they were executed and their bodies disposed of in a pit. The killings were filmed by the perpetrators themselves, suggesting a level of impunity and routine practice.
The massacre remained largely unknown until 2022, when researchers connected to the University of Amsterdam authenticated and analyzed the video footage. Their work identified individuals involved and confirmed the location and timing of the events.
