Look, the guy didn’t even seem to be aware that he is about to be executed. He looked delirious and out of it. That leg wound was slowing everyone down and it got septic and they are probably somewhere where they don’t have antibiotics or medical supplies or evac. Rather than all getting killed to save him or turning around, they gave him a soldiers death.
