On April 30, 2026, a domestic dispute in South Ozone Park, Queens, ended in a massive house explosion. 50-year-old Anroop Parasram broke into his estranged wife’s basement apartment armed with a knife and carrying containers of gasoline. As NYPD officers arrived and attempted to enter the home, Parasram intentionally ignited the accelerant, triggering a powerful gas explosion that blew out the front of the house and violently threw several officers backward.Miraculously, the officers quickly recovered from the blast and re-entered the burning building to rescue the family. Result:1 dead: Anroop Parasram (the suspect), who died in the explosion and collapse.
11 injured: 8 NYPD officers, 1 FDNY firefighter, and several family members sustained minor injuries (burns, cuts, and bruises). All were treated and listed in stable condition.
The three-family home was heavily damaged and partially collapsed. The quick actions of police and firefighters prevented a much greater tragedy, successfully rescuing the wife, daughter, and two young grandchildren.
