Reports indicate a reliance on a range of equipment, including electric shock batons, rattan sticks, and wooden sticks, which are often used in addition to, rather than exclusively instead of, firearms.
Here’s some stuff;
Contrary to the idea of only using sticks, Indonesian police are regularly issued firearms. Police patrolling public spaces like train stations have been observed with rifles, including AK-101s.
Police also utilize electric shock weapons (Tasers), weighted leg cuffs, and tear gas.
In some areas, such as Papua, or during intense security operations, military personnel (carrying assault rifles) are deployed, sometimes in conjunction with police.
Recent reports from 2025 have accused Indonesian police of using excessive force, including the improper use of tear gas and batons to suppress protests.
