Back in 1990 (I think), Mikhail Gorbachev and the US Secretary of State spoke about this, because Gorbachev was concerned about eastern encroachment of NATO - which he was assured would NEVER happen. Your analogy of Russia wanting to 'check-in' to the US border via Mexico or Canada, is a perfect example of what has happened to Russia.

I would share a story with you, but you'd only accuse me of lying, so there's little point. But fuck it, I'll share it anyway... I was at a dinner recently and by sheer chance, I met two guests who joked that they shouldn't be speaking with one another. When I enquired as to why, they explained that one of them was born in the USSR and the other in the Ukrainian SSR.

So my opening gambit was to suggest that they absolutely should be talking, and perhaps if Putin and Zelensky spoke more - then they wouldn't be in this mess. I then decided to speak with them about what I had read regarding the Gorbachev/US Secretary of State 'off the record' NATO conversation. Strangely, neither of them thought I was an idiot, and we ended up speaking at great length about this unfortunate conflict and how it could've been avoided...

Perhaps you should get out more and speak to real people, rather than just bark nonsense in comments sections. You might learn a thing or two, assuming of course that your brain is capable of storing information.

@THETOTALGUY Russia is fighting a special military operation, not an all out war. Its all about attrition as they know Ukraine will eventually run out of men and weapons supplied by the west. They play the long game loosing less men and resources than Ukraine will over a longer period of time.
