Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas, a 21-year-old graduate of Physical Education, died after falling from 40 meters during a jump rope at the Ponte do Esqueleto, located between Limeira and Cordeirópolis, Brazil. The victim was thrown into the vacuum by instructors who failed to attach the safety rope to his chest equipment.
Witnesses present told us that the activity operators acted in a negligent haste, skipping the critical stages of harness verification. In videos captured by the attendants, you can hear the despair of the attendees when noticing that the rope was hanging without tension while the young woman impacted directly to the ground, losing her life instantly.
Crews from the Fire Department and SAMU confirmed the death of multiple trauma at the scene, where the victim's fiancé was also located. Following the impact, some of the organizers tried to escape through a wooded area, but were intercepted by the Military Police in an operation that included air support.
Six people linked to the groups Entre Cordas and Ih Voei were detained and transferred to the 2nd Police District of Limeira. The case has been registered as a homicide and three of those responsible remain in judicial custody while investigating a lack of commercial regulation in this abandoned structure.
