A drunk driver ran over two women who were on the sidewalk after arguing with and attempting to run over a wheelchair user in the early hours of Monday (2), in Embu das Artes, in the Metropolitan Region of São Paulo.

The incident occurred on Avenida Aimara, in the Pirajussara neighborhood, shortly after the driver left a bar. Images of the hit-and-run have now surfaced.

According to the police report, it was after 4 am when the silver car, driven by Ágata Ellen Firmino, 30, drove onto the sidewalk and hit the victims (see video above). Her defense could not be reached by the reporter.

After the hit-and-run, the driver reversed and ran over one of the women again, trapping her between the wheels of the vehicle.

The Civil Police determined that Ágata was driving without a license. According to the police report, she refused to take a breathalyzer test and was taken to the Forensic Medical Institute (IML), where her intoxication was confirmed by a clinical examination.

The driver was arrested on the spot and will initially face charges of negligent bodily injury in traffic, driving under the influence, and driving without a license. The vehicle was seized and sent for forensic examination.

According to the police report, the victim who was arrested [sic] is hospitalized and in stable condition. She suffered a leg fracture and underwent surgery. The other victim sustained only minor injuries.

According to the Public Security Secretariat (SSP), the case was registered by the Embu das Artes Police Station and remains under investigation by the Civil Police.
