The attack occurred late in the evening at a commercial establishment located at Calle 99B and Carrera 1 Sur in the Villa San Carlos neighborhood, situated in the southern part of Barranquilla, Colombia. Three men arrived on a single motorcycle. Two of the occupants quickly got off the bike and opened fire indiscriminately at the people inside the establishment. the shooting is believed to be a direct result of a violent turf war between two rival criminal factions operating in the area: "Los Costeños" é "Nueva Generación Los del Freseo".
