the live broadcast, which began at around 5 a.m., lasted about 8 minutes, during which a man born in 1983 was self-harming. People who watched it urged people to call for help as soon as possible.
A 40-year-old Lithuanian . Around 5:30 AM on May 3, 2023 , he started a TikTok Live stream from his apartment in Kaunas . During the live stream, he stabbed himself with a knife. His clothes were covered in blood, and he eventually collapsed, seemingly in pain. He also slashed his face and continued to stab himself even while lying on the ground.
However, the police and prosecutor's office wrote in statements released this morning that they only learned about such a broadcast after receiving a report from the Singapore Interpol National Bureau, which occurred at 5:30 a.m.
However, from the General Assistance Center, the information reached the officers earlier - at 5:04 a.m., a person calling 112 reported that a person was harming themselves during the broadcast.
When asked how the report was responded to, Police Department representative Ramūnas Matonis said that the police took measures to identify the person and their place of residence, which was later done.
"When contacted, the reporter said that he saw a broadcast in which a person was harming himself with a knife, he did not understand whether it was real, but decided to report it to the police. He did not know where it was taking place, but according to him, it is likely that this could be a deception of viewers in order to get as many likes as possible," R. Matonis informed.
After identifying the man and finding out that his registered place of residence was in Prienai, officers from the Alytus Chief Police Commissariat went there, but they were unable to find him there.
It was later discovered that he may be staying in Kaunas. This information was passed on to Kaunas law enforcement at approximately 10 a.m., 5 hours after the broadcast began.
When police officers from this city went there and broke down the door of the apartment, they found a dead man inside with at least 10 stab wounds in various parts of his body.
"The preliminary findings of the forensic medical expert confirm the suicide version. Multiple, repeated, similar-direction injuries were found on the man's body. No signs of self-defense were found," the prosecutor's office reported. A pre-trial investigation has been launched to determine the cause of death.
Shortly before his suicide, the man wrote several posts on Facebook about his plans to commit suicide. Hundreds of people are now commenting on these posts, some expressing condolences, but many are sharing the post by sending it via private messages.
