It looks to me that this man was a criminal trying to escape the train. He was not hanging onto the train voluntarily and could have jumped off at any time before arriving at the platform. When he starts to twist and squirm, you see him slip between the platform and the train and it is then you see someone let go of his wrists as they lean out the window. I think that is a police officer or maybe a train security agent. The look on his face is one of desperation and not showing off for his friends, he did not want to get back into that train under any circumstances.
