In Brazil, a 24-year-old woman who went missing on 17 August was found alive five days later — she had been held captive in a rented house.

Police found the woman chained to a bed. Her hands, feet and neck were bound with ropes, handcuffs and a chain, and her mouth was gagged. She was having difficulty breathing and required medical attention.

According to the police, the main suspect is her former partner, Ailton Rodrigues. Investigators believe he may have drugged the woman with antidepressants before taking her to the house, which, according to the police, he had rented specifically to hold her captive. A 9mm pistol was also found on the premises.

After the woman went missing, her family contacted the police. Investigators also noted that the former partner himself had suddenly disappeared from view and changed his usual behaviour. He was arrested on 21 August.

After her rescue, Emiliane spoke of her physical injuries and stated that she had been subjected to violence whilst being held captive. She has now been discharged from hospital and is recovering at home.
